Invisalign – What happens next…….
- We would always recommend having a complimentary consultation first at one of our practices.
- At this appointment, the suitability of Invisalign would be discussed
- Approximate length of proposed treatment
- We at Oradi pride ourselves on offering all of our patients on completely transparent pricing policies – no hidden extras
- Your fixed fee inclusive of all consultations / genuine Invisalign aligners / one set of genuine Invisalign retainers (one per jaw)
- Confirm if you will need any slenderisation of teeth
- Confirm if you may need placement of tooth coloured attachments on teeth
- Once you decide to the proceed to the next stage of Invisalign treatment, then, a full case assessment appointment is scheduled
- A full case assessment involves taking full mouth impressions ( a two stage technique). Full face and intra oral digital images are recorded, as well as appropriate radiographs (XRays) – the fee for this is £500
- All of this information is processed, and then shipped to Invisalign in the USA. All genuine Invisalign aligners and retainers are fabricated by Invisalign Inc., so it is impossible to have genuine Invisalign aligners / retainers on the same day.
- Approximately 3 weeks after the impressions appointment, we will receive back from the USA your ‘Clincheck’ images. This is a 3d digital imaging software package which allows your Invisalign surgeon to accurately plan, and predict the planned tooth movements. Once we have verified that we at Oradi are happy with these, we will then email them to the patient.
- Upon receipt of these images, the patient has 60 days to accept or modify the proposed treatment plan. After 60 days, a fresh set of impressions would need to be taken, as well as another £500 assessment fee.
- If the patient is happy with the proposed ‘Clincheck’ they simply need to confirm this back to the treating surgeon, as well as contact the practice to place the order for their custom made Invisalign aligners, and make the next payment of £750, and also not to forget to book their fitting appointment in three weeks time.
- On the day of the fitting appointment, the dentist would place any tooth coloured attachments to the teeth, as well as carry out any necessary slenderisation that may be required. We would then fit the first set of aligners, and ensure that the aligners can be removed.
- Whilst some may feel that it be best to sit with the patient and ensure that the patient can remove the aligners themselves, having now treated over 350 patients in Northamptonshire, we have realised that patients find it a lot easier to teach themselves how to remove & fit the aligners in the privacy of their own space rather than with dentist / nurse looking on. But don’t forget we are always only a phone call away. On a recent audit of the last 250 patients who had had Invisalign fitted, only two had returned back the practice to be shown how to remove/fit the first set of aligners. A fee of £750 is payable on this appointment
- The first 96 hours of treatment will be the hardest – and the steepest learning curve for ALL patients. There is an increase in saliva flow – settles within 24 hours; there can be a change in speech – settles usually within 72 hours, but there may be a transient lisp throughout treatment in certain cases – teeth will feel tingly – some have described as buzzing/pins & needles, this is completely normal, and again settles.
- The biggest hurdle is lifestyle change. Absolutely essential to wear the aligners 22 hours per day – failure to do so may jeopardise the results. Whenever eating or cleaning, the aligners must be removed, once completed, they should be cleaned and placed straight back in. Each set of aligners should be worn for 2 weeks. After this time, the next set should be worn.
- Always keep your old set in their respective Invisalign packet.
- Every month you will need to come in to the practice to collect your next months of aligners as well as make the next payment, the amount would be pre-agreed with your dentist.
- We would review your treatment approximately every 12-16 weeks.
- At the end of treatment, one set of genuine Invisalign retainers would be delivered, once both patient and dentist are happy.
- These retainers are an absolute necessity, and are a lifetime commitment, to ensuring that your teeth do not move. The retainers MUST be worn every night. Failure to do so will result in the teeth moving, and should this happen, then there is little that can be done other than further treatment, the cost of which would be another full fee.
- All patients are advised, that all current clinical data supports unreservedly that patients who wear their retainers every night ( approx 8 hours per day) teeth will not move out of the finished position; thus cases, whereby teeth have moved since finishing, it is accepted that the patient has failed to wear their retainers as advised by Invisalign / treating dentist.
- All completed Invisalign patients, are asked to return every six months for a period of 12 months to review their treatment – there is no fee for this.
- The final retainers will NOT last for life, and are most likely to require replacement every 12-18 months approximately, but the rate of replacement varies from patient to patient.
- Replacement cost of genuine Invisalign retainers is currently £150 per jaw.
- A triple pack of genuine Invisalign retainers can be ordered, this is three sets of upper and lower retainers.
- If the triple pack is ordered at the completion of treatment, the fee is £300
- If the triple pack is ordered after completion, and one set of retainers has already been delivered, then the fee is £450.
